Brighter Day Therapeutic Solutions offers traditional therapy as well as play/art-based therapy for children and adolescents. I work with children as young as 3 years old through adolescents.
Children and adolescents typically enter therapy with some anxiety about having to “talk” about their problems. I use play therapy techniques with children to provide a developmentally appropriate and secure environment where they can engage in the healing process. For adolescents, I utilize a variety of expressive arts techniques to facilitate change and growth.
What is Play Therapy? The Association for Play Therapy describes play therapy as “the positive relationship that develops between therapist and child during play sessions [which] may provide a corrective emotional experience or serve to release the natural healing resources that lie within the child.” I use directive and nondirective/child-centered techniques to help children overcome their difficulties. Adolescents need a comfortable environment where their emotional needs can be explored. It is my goal to provide a safe and secure relationship for them to find solutions to their problems and examine their choices.
My experience with addressing issues of children and adolescents include:
- Adjustment Issues
- Anger Problems
- Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Bipolar Disorder
- Conduct Disorder
- Emotional Issues
- Oppositional Defiance (ODD)
- Social Skills Problems
- Trauma (Abuse/Neglect)
